Many people suffer from hair loss, but it is a problem that is treatable in a variety of ways. It can be hard to pick which is the truth and which is hype, with so many different hair loss products and procedures. It is bad enough that you are losing your hair, but having to deal with what is true, and what is a myth or misconception about hair loss only makes it worse.

One commonly held belief about hair loss is that if you cut your hair more frequently, it will grow back thicker and healthier. What usually happens is people will start shaving their heads thinking that this will help them avert the inevitable hair loss that they will soon face. Unfortunately, this does not prevent hair loss. What tends to happen is people realize that this activity has absolutely nothing to do with preventing hair loss or improving their hair. Short hair gives the illusion of being thicker because it really is thicker at the base near your scalp. But as it starts to grow, it will be the same thickness as it was before you cut it.

There are people who believe that hair growth can be stimulated by using certain alternative treatments. Preventing hair loss, especially male or female pattern baldness, probably won't happen with these treatments, which haven't been proven to work. Hanging upside down or standing on your head are examples of such treatment. If your head gets more blood flowing into it, that is supposed to cause your hair to grow. This practice might give you some benefits to your health, but for growing back hair, it is highly unlikely. Another alternative treatment that might be relaxing and even healthy, but that's unlikely to help your hair grow back is scalp massage. For reducing stress, these types of treatments are helpful, but reversing hair loss is a different story.

A familiarity with the causes of hair loss will help you differentiate between myth and the actual facts on this topic. There is some basis in reality to some of the myths about hair loss however very few of them have a foundation in actual knowledge. Oftentimes, hair loss is the result of people that have avoided taking supplements and eating the right foods causing malnutrition within their bodies. Genetics often plays a role in whether or not a person loses their hair. If this is the case, poor nutrition is not to blame. Hair loss may not be preventable with some people. You will only know if you can stop this process from occurring once you know what is causing it.

It is important that you take a little time to determine whether or not the hair loss remedies you are looking at are actually fact or fiction. Always check with your physician to make sure that the hair loss you are currently experiencing is not based upon medications that you may have been prescribed. As you begin to learn more information about hair loss, it will be easier to find a remedy that will work for you.
